Toll IPEC
Melbourne Airport, VIC
This landmark facility consolidates Toll IPEC’s national and Victorian teams under one roof and houses a state of the art parcel sortation system which triples the company’s capacity, allowing it to capitalise on the growing online retail market. The project was finished on schedule, in time to help the company handle the busy pre-Christmas season.
This landmark freight sorting facility adjacent to Melbourne Airport, is the new Australian and Victorian headquarters for freight leaders Toll IPEC, and was designed and built by Qanstruct for the company in conjunction with Australia Pacific Airports (Melbourne).
The new facility has allowed Toll IPEC to bring together some 500 operational and administrative staff who were previously employed over three sites, with a three-storey, 5,500m² State administration and national operations office, a 850m² operations office, a 20-room drivers rest facility, truck workshop and wash, gatehouses and associated services.
With its immediate access to Melbourne Airport and key arterial roads makes this location an ideal freight hub, maximising fleet productivity, while the state of the art parcel sortation system which is housed in the new 50,000m² warehouse, improves accuracy and triples Toll Group’s parcel service delivery capabilities to a staggering 35,000 parcels per hour. This area is serviced by over 300 PUD and line haul docks, serviced by a conveyor system, and is surrounded by extensive hardstand to ensure efficient movement of incoming and outgoing trucks. Car parking for 800 cars has also been included.
The project has also been designed to improve safety and deliver energy and cost-efficiencies, and to meet Toll IPEC’s commitment to environmentally sustainable developments by the use of passive design principles, optimising natural light and ventilation, considering water conservation and ecological impact, integrating structural protection and high performance materials, and minimising waste.
Completed on schedule in time for commissioning before the busy pre-Christmas period, the new facility not only successfully optimises operational efficiencies and provides a safe and pleasant working environment, but has added vital additional capacity to the group’s national network to help cater for the exponential growth in online retail.
