Recently Qanstruct, in partnership with Perri Projects, has completed the inner-city Head Office for Scalzo Foods, located in West Melbourne.

The lot, narrow and long in size, called for a clever design to provide Scalzo Foods with a head office that would meet their needs and see them long into the future.

The site measuring only 1,875 square meters, was carefully designed to maximise the space available and the result is a spacious contemporary three-storey office, packed with amenities.

The project started with the demolition of the existing buildings on the site. The red clay bricks from the façade were retained to be used on the façade of the new facility, keeping in style with the area. The building’s industrial/commercial saw-tooth roof was also incorporated into the new design, tastefully connecting the modern contemporary design to the history of the area.

To meet the client’s needs, the three-storey office was designed with formal entry foyer via a side paved accessway, meeting rooms, board rooms, showroom, training room, test kitchen, 35 space car park, bike storage, End of Trip Facilities (lockers, showers, toilets) to encourage movement reduction and reduction of impact on the environment, staff kitchen and lunchroom with rooftop outdoor terraces; and on the street front, a Commercial Café.

​The structure has been fitted with a 30kW solar power system for harvesting electricity and hot water generation, LED lighting throughout, stormwater harvesting for toilet flushing and irrigation to the rooftop terrace gardens.

​The design focus of this project was to utilise raw and natural products. Exposed concrete columns, timber paneling to walls, exposed structural steel, polished concrete floors in the foyer, and the upcycling of the existing red clay bricks onto the façade of the new café are just a few of the natural products used throughout.

The end result is a state of the art modern contemporary head office that blends in whilst it stands out.
