Kitchens, it’s well known, are not only the heart of a home but also one of the keys to its value. Claytons Kitchens, a privately-owned Australian company, has been specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of kitchens, bathrooms and other joinery since 1982. Now, the growing company is well equipped for the future with a brand new $13 million headquarters on a site of nearly 3.8 hectares at the Dexus estate in Truganina in Victoria.
Designed and constructed by Qanstruct, the new 15,000m2 facility comprises a main office and production office, a spacious showroom to showcase the latest trends in joinery and finishes. Staff at the facility can enjoy the welcoming and friendly atmosphere of their new, ergonomically designed and beautifully appointed offices, as well as their own indoor and outdoor break spaces and easy parking, with 265 car spaces on the site.
The expansive factory triples the company’s manufacturing space and has been purpose-built to house new, custom-designed joinery manufacturing equipment, as well as allowing for improved logistics and warehouse operations. It features an open-plan dispatch office, integrated racking and a covered canopy for weather-proofed loading and unloading. Rainwater capture has been integrated to provide landscape irrigation and toilet flushing, minimising the building’s environmental impact.
As the building was started while road infrastructure on the estate was still being completed, significant work was required to coordinate the construction works and connection of services. The complex data and power supply requirements of the company’s new manufacturing technology also necessitated careful coordination between Qanstruct and the client, resulting in an efficient reticulation design.
The result is a contemporary, efficient and eye-catching facility which will allow Claytons to continue to manufacture its kitchen, bathroom and storage joinery, stone benchtops and glass splashback products with the speed, accuracy and quality its customers expect. And, it provides plenty of potential for future expansion, should the need arise, ensuring that Claytons will be happily at home in Truganina for many years to come.
