Qanstruct Completes Largest ‘Super Hub’ in TNT’s Global Network

The $37 million facility, designed and built for TNT and Australia Pacific Airports, Melbourne, has taken just over 12 months to complete and will provide an important boost to capacity for TNT, one of the world’s largest express delivery companies.

Located on a 12 hectare site at the Melbourne Airport Business Park in Tullamarine, the 38,000m2 facility – large enough to house more than five soccer fields – is ideally located close to Melbourne’s busiest curfew-free airport and major arterial roads, providing easy access to the ports and other key destinations around Victoria and across Australia.

TNT, which delivers more than a million consignments worldwide each day, will now be combining its Victorian Head Office and other Melbourne-based operations under one roof at the new site. As well as office accommodation and facilities for its people, the new complex features a vast warehouse housing a sophisticated parcel sortation system which will allow the company to process 18,500 parcels an hour, an increase on its previous Melbourne capacity of some 60%.

The opening of this new facility removes the company’s previous capacity constraints, making it better able to provide domestic and global express freight services in growth sectors like health, high value manufacturing, government and defence, and IT and technology, said Rod Barnes, TNT Australia’s Regional Director, Southern Region.

“This significant investment will enable TNT to meet continued growth in demand and provide our customers with the level of service they expect in an ever-changing and competitive market. It represents a step-change in thinking about how a facility should be set up to serve our customers changing needs, brought about by the growth in e-commerce and a shift to lighter weight, higher volume consignments.

“This new Tullamarine depot has been purpose-built to address these changes and capacity constraints and will also help us reach our goal of significantly reducing our carbon footprint and create a safer, more efficient and more comfortable environment for our staff.

“We are delighted with our new ‘home’, which we expect will meet our needs for at least the next 15 years and, with the design catering for significant expansion in future, well beyond that.”
